Land Acknowledgement: Hobart & William Smith Colleges (where Palinodia is researched,
written, and published) is an institution situated on the ancestral lands of the Haudenosaunee
Confederacy, an alliance of six sovereign Nations: the Kanienkehagen (Mohawk), the
Onayotekaono (Oneida), the Onundagaono (Onondaga), the Guyohkohnyoh (Cayuga), the
Onondowahgah (Seneca), and the Ska-Ruh-Reh (Tuscarora). This Confederacy preceded the
establishment of Hobart & William Smith Colleges, New York State, and the United States of
America. We acknowledge the egregious, painful history of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy’s
dispossession, and honor its members’ continuing connection, past and present, to these lands
and waters.
